SR 02-03-2014 City of Elk=' Request for Action River To Item Number Mayor and City Council 6.1 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by Awards, Recognitions, February 3, 2014 T.John Cunningham,Fire Chief and Presentations Item Description Reviewed by Recognition of Fire Officers and Oath of Office for Cal Portner, City Administrator Fire Officers Reviewed by Action Requested • Mayor Dietz to present Certificates of Appreciation to Captain George Anderson,Lieutenant Terry Elliott, and Lieutenant Gary Lore. • Mayor Dietz to administer the Oath of Office to Captain Tim Marchiafava,Lieutenant Joe Evenson,and Lieutenant Mark Lees. Background/Discussion Captain George Anderson,Lieutenant Terry Elliott,and Lieutenant Gary Lore are being recognized for their years of service as officers with the Elk River Fire Department. Each has distinguished themselves as a leader and as a mentor,having committed to the training and preparation of the next generation of leadership in the Elk River Fire Department. Captain Anderson and Lieutenant Elliott will continue their service as firefighters and Lieutenant Lore has formally retired from the Fire Department. The Fire Department and the city thanks all three for their years of selfless and dedicated service. Chief Cunningham appointed the following firefighters to officer positions, effective February 1, 2014: • Tim Marchiafava, Captain (Training and Safety) • Joe Evenson,Lieutenant • Mark Lees,Lieutenant All three were appointed after a thorough selection process which included an interview panel consisting of Fire Department officers and an outside fire chief. Mayor Dietz will administer the Oath of Office to Capt. Marchiafava,Lt. Evenson,and Lt. Lees. Financial Impact The positions are included in the 2014 operating budget.
