SUBJECT: Neighborhood Skating Rinks
At the Riverplace neighborhood information meeting, a resident inquired as to the
possibility of neighborhood skating rinks which would be established and maintained by the
neighborhood. Staff would like direction regarding establishing a policy for such requests.
Items to consider in a policy would include:
1. Requiring an application for a neighborhood skating rink.
2. Creation of the skating oval, i.e., plowing the area to be flooded.
3. Responsibility of flooding the rink- Could this possibly be a neighborhood activity or
would this be the responsibility of Public Works?
4. Snow removal from the ice surface.
5. Requiring a neighborhood contact person.
6. Other issues or concerns.
This item is for discussion and we are looking for direction from the Commission regarding
any concerns or issues that this activity may raise.
