Consider Hiring Building Inspector
City staff h~tmqdewed 3 of the 39 applicants for the vacant position of Building Inspector.
Those involved in d~e interviews are unanimous in their reco~vmaendation to hire Dave
Hettick to fill this position.
Dave was a self-employed construction contractor for over 10 years, has his state Building
Official Limited Certification, and is currendy in the process of fmislm~g his two year degree
in Building Inspection Technology at North Hennepin Communit7 College. In addition,
Mr. Hetrick has been ffi2ing a temporaq7 Building Inspector position since ~rdd-October and
is farrfiliar with d~e citT's inspection software and inspection procedures.
Staff is recommending fl~e cit7 hire David Hetdck with the following terms:
Starting date February 10, 2004
One year orientation period (February 10, 2005) and must achieve full Building
Official Certification by that time, unless for cause an extension is granted by his
supervisor
Starting at Pay Grade 13, step B ($19.43/hr.), plus $3,000 annual increase approved
by the City Council for the position of Building Inspector, which brings it to
$20.87/hr.
First step increase following full Certification as a Building Official and second step
increase no sooner than July 2006, conditioned on acceptable perfon,nance reviews
First cost of living increase January 2005 following an acceptable six month
