Action Requested
Approve,by motion, the promotion of Chris Teff as Lead Street Maintenance Operator in the Streets
Division.
Background/Discussion
A support position for the streets superintendent has been vacant since January of 2013 when Mark
Thompson, then assistant superintendent, was appointed interim streets superintendent. Since that time,
maintenance operators have rotated as a support or lead.
Council recently approved a revised lead street maintenance operator position description. The vacancy
was posted and interviews held with five street division employees. The interview panel identified Chris
Teff, a maintenance operator II, as the best qualified applicant for the position.
Mr. Teff is one of the division's best equipment operators and brings over 10 years of experience in the
construction industry. He is detail oriented, organized, and possesses the necessary computer skills. The
panel believes his work style will effectively complement the interim superintendent. The position was
offered to and accepted by Mr. Teff on Thursday,March 6, 2014. He assumed position responsibilities on
Friday,March 07, 2014.
Mr. Teff will start at step C of pay grade 7. Based on satisfactory performance he will be eligible to move
to step D in six months. All other pay and benefits will be consistent with city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
