Members Present: Vice-Chair Ahlness, Commission members Holmgren,Niziolek,
Nystrom, and Sagan
Members Absent: Chair Anderson, Commission member Kallemeyn
Staff Present: Parks and Recreation Director,Michael Hecker, Recreation Manager,
Steve Benoit, and Recitation Coordinator, Tonya Love
1. Call Meeting to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof,the meeting of the Elk River Parks and
Recreation Commission was called to order at 6:30 p.m.by Vice-Chair Ahlness.
2. Consider 12/11/2013 Agenda
Moved by Commissioner Sagan and seconded by Commissioner Nystrom to
approve the December 11, 2013, agenda. Motion carried 5-0.
3. Consider Minutes
Moved by Commissioner Nystrom and seconded by Commissioner Niziolek
to approve the following November 13, 2013 Parks and Recreation
Commission Minutes. Motion carried 5-0.
4. Open Forum
Ms.Jussila, 13142 179th Ct. Elk River.Ms.Jussila shared that the residents
surrounding the outdoor ice rink at Mississippi Oaks Park would like to request
lighting to be installed so residents can ice skate after dark, also submitting a signed
petition showing support of the idea.
5. Park/Program Highlight
Mr. Benoit presented a slideshow highlighting the recreation programs held in the
YMCA gym.

6.1 Orono Athletic Complex Renaming Recommendation - Public
Hearing
Mr. Hecker presented his staff report also stating that Commissioner Anderson and
Mr.Dietz approved the name of Orono Athletic Complex to change to the Dave
Anderson Athletic Complex.
Commissioner Sagan expressed that there a lot of Dave Andersons'in the area and if
there would be a middle initial in the new title.
Mr.Hecker stated that he had spoken to Dave Anderson that he actually indicated
he preferred using Dave Anderson Athletic Complex.
Moved by Commissioner Nystrom and seconded by Commissioner Niziolek
to recommend to City Council to rename the Orono Athletic Complex to Dave
Anderson Athletic Complex,with the final name being chosen by
Commissioner Dave Anderson. Motion carried 5-0.
6.2 Parks and Recreation Master Plan Committee Member Nomination
Mr. Hecker presented his staff report.
Moved by Commissioner Sagan and seconded by Commissioner Niziolek to
appoint Commissioners Ahlness and Holmgren to serve on the Parks and
Recreation Master Plan Committee. Motion carried 5-0.
7. Parks and Recreation Director Report
Mr. Hecker presented his staff report.
Commissioner Holmgren clarified which field and location the lights would be
installed on at Oak Knoll.
Mr.Hecker stated that the lighting was approved December 2 at the City Council to
be installed on Oak Knoll Field 10,the field nearest to the City Maintenance Facility.
8. Division Manager's Reports
Mr. Benoit presented his staff report.
9. Announcements
Commissioner Anderson asked the commission members to consider helping with
the upcoming Parks Master Plan project and to connect with Mr. Hecker.

10. Adjournment
There being no further business,Vice-Chair Ahlness adjourned the meeting of the
Elk River Parks and Recreation Commission at 7:05 p.m.
