In addition to managing current programs, staff are working on summer program planning.
Summer is the busiest program season of the year, so having the planning done early allows
for more effective marketing efforts. Staff recruitment,program design, registration set-up,
and supply ordering are just some of the areas program staff focus on heavily when
preparing for the summer session.

• 2014 Optional Membership program is in progress. To date 317 memberships have
been purchased.
• CAER fundraising event on Feb 27 at the Activity Center was well attended.A total
of$1050.00 was raised for the food shelf.
• Africa travelogue presentation was enjoyed by25 people. The presenter did an
excellent job and will return to do more travelogue presentations.
• Febntarytrip to Rosedale was cancelled due to snowstorm. Hopefully weather will
improve,as 4 trips are planned for March.
• March Madness fitness promotion includes a chance to enter your name in a prize
drawing every time you attend a fitness class. Prize drawing will occur at the end of
March.

Subject: Parks and Recreation Master Plan Report
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan Committee include Parks and Recreation Director
Michael Hecker,Recreation Manager Steve Benoit,Parks Supervisor Rodney Schreifels,Park
Planner Chris Leeseberg and Park Commission Members,Mark Ahlness and Ryan
Holmgren.
The time frame for this project is January2014 to September 2014.
The Community Survey should be going out in the mail very soon. The issue has been the
bulk mailing and return stamp which should be clarified by the time the Commission meets
on March 12. It is very important that the Commission conveys to the general public that
anyone who receives a survey in their mail should fill it out and drop it in the mail. The City
is working on getting this message out to the general public using local media and the City
website.
Focus Group Sessions are planned for Thursday,March 27. All Commission members are
encouraged to attend one or all sessions. These will be led by HKGi staff. All will be held
in the City Hall Uppertown Conference room.
Community Stakeholders: 3:00 pm- 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm- 7:00 pm
Athletic Associations: 7:30 pm- 9:00 pm
Individual invitations and specific questions are now going out via email and regular mail.
The general public is invited. The sessions will be announced in the local media and on the
City website. Participation from local agencies and groups will help inform plans for parks
trails and athletic facilities and will identify priorities and partnership opportunities.
