Approve,by motion,the hiring of Jacob Walz as IT Support Assistant effective April 8, 2014.
Background/Discussion
We originally recruited for this position in December. We offered the position to two different
candidates who both chose to stay in their current positions. We reopened the position in February and
received 14 applications. We interviewed seven candidates and are recommending Jacob Walz for this
position.
Mr. Walz is currently employed by Beaudry Oil where he is a dispatcher as well as providing end user
computer support to their staff. In addition to his computer education and work experience,Mr. Walz
has education and experience in law enforcement and criminal justice and as a heavy truck technician.
Mr. Walz will start at step A of pay grade 3. Based on satisfactory performance,Mr. Walz will be eligible
for a step increase in 6 months. All other pay and benefits are consistent with city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position. The pay and related costs for this position will be shared 50/50 with Elk
River Municipal Utilities.
