Background/Discussion
Since 1997, the discussion of remodeling the Ice Arena has been a topic of the Arena Commission.
This initially was discussed due to the small lobby and the need to update The Barn locker rooms and
repair the roof. As the years have progressed, the list of Capital Improvement needs have increased and
new standards for refrigeration are looming closer each year.
As some of you may know, a survey was randomly mailed to Elk River homes asking what they feel are
the greatest needs of the cities for the parks and recreation. The survey questions ranged from Park,
Trails, to facilities. The answers to these questions will help develop a master parks plan that will outline
the future of the amenities the city's parks and recreation will offer. The master plan is estimated to be
completed in late May, early June.
City Administration is developing a RFP for a multi-purpose facility which will include an ice rink,
meeting rooms, senior activity center, banquet area and possibly commercial kitchen. The RFP will
outline construction costs, operation costs and as well as projective revenues.
