2004 Equipment Purchase

The 2004 capital ouday budget contains $135,000 for the purchase of a single axle truck with
snowplow equipment, hydraulic controls, a swap loader body and a "v" box sander.
I have compared five truck models from three manufacturers via the MNDOT bid process.
The plow equipment and truck body will come from another vendor, and the bids for the
plow and truck equipment will not be ready for City Council approval until March 8, 2004.
However, I would ask that the Council move forward with the truck chassis purchase now.
The total cost of the truck with final truck cab and chassis bid, and the preliminary body and
equipment numbers will be well below the budgeted $135,000.

Recommendation:
Staff recommends that City Council authorize the purchase of a Freightliner, model M2-106
truck and chassis, utilizing the state bid process from I-State Truck Center for $54,591.00
with $3,548.41 sales tax, for a total of $58,139.41.
