Approve,by motion,the appointment of Matthew Stevens as Interim Wastewater Chief Operator
effective May 10, 2014.
Background/Discussion
Wastewater Chief Operator Gary Leirmoe is retiring May 9, 2014. We are in the process of recruiting for
this position. Staff would like to appoint our current Lead Operator,Matthew Stevens to be the Interim
Chief Operator until the position is filled and the successful candidate begins the position.
Mr. Stevens is currently receiving additional pay for holding the Class A Operations License for the plant.
We recommend an additional 5%increase in pay to compensate Mr. Stevens during this interim
assignment. This would be equivalent to an annual salary of$70,936. Mr. Stevens would also be working
as an exempt employee during this interim assignment.
Financial Impact
Mr. Leirmoe's pay was budgeted for the full year. The interim assignment as well as the new chief
operator will be at a lower pay step than what was budgeted for the position. This results in a budget
savings for the year.
