Background/Discussion Elk River's Chief Wastewater Operator Gary Leirmoe is retiring on May 9, 2014, after almost 21 years of service to the city. During his tenure with the city he has been part of six plant expansions and addressed countless service calls for blocked pipes and plugged pumps. Gary's experience and institutional knowledge has been instrumental in successfully managing daily operations as well as leading and developing his staff In 2001, the Elk River wastewater treatment plant won top plant in Region 6 and placed 2nd nationally. Also,under his direction,the plant has been recognized with a Certificate of Commendation for complying with MPCA's Permit Program fourteen times since 1979. Although Gary is retiring from his position,it is evident that he is proud of the position he held at the plant all these years. A farewell party for staff and public to honor Gary will be held on May 8 at City Hall. Financial Impact None.
