Mayor and City Council to present retirement plaque to Elk River WW"IP Chief Operator Gary Leirmoe
and proclaim Friday,May 9, 2014, as Gary Leirmoe Day in the City of Elk River.
Background/Discussion
Elk River's Chief Wastewater Operator Gary Leirmoe is retiring on May 9, 2014, after almost 21 years of
service to the city.
During his tenure with the city he has been part of six plant expansions and addressed countless service
calls for blocked pipes and plugged pumps.
Gary's experience and institutional knowledge has been instrumental in successfully managing daily
operations as well as leading and developing his staff In 2001, the Elk River wastewater treatment plant
won top plant in Region 6 and placed 2nd nationally. Also,under his direction,the plant has been
recognized with a Certificate of Commendation for complying with MPCA's Permit Program fourteen
times since 1979.
Although Gary is retiring from his position,it is evident that he is proud of the position he held at the
plant all these years.
A farewell party for staff and public to honor Gary will be held on May 8 at City Hall.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Gary Leirmoe has retired from the Wastewater Treatment Plant after 20 years
of service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Gary Leirmoe has earned the respect and friendship of his peers, co-workers,
and the community; and
WHEREAS, for his dedicated service to the community, the Elk River City Council, fellow
employees, and citizens of the community extend their sincere appreciation to Gary and
wish him a long,happy, and healthy retirement!
THEREFORE, I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of the City of Elk River, do hereby proclaim May 9,
2014, as GARY LEIRMOE DAY,in recognition and appreciation of the loyal and
professional service he has provided.
