Presentation of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Commendation Certificate.
Background/Discussion
Each year, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency(MPCA) recognizes municipalities and industries for
outstanding and innovative achievements in wastewater treatment and pollution abatement programs.
The City of Elk River was among 128 of the state's 1,360 wastewater treatment facilities to receive this
award at the annual Wastewater Operations Conference in Brooklyn Center.
To be eligible for this award, facility operators were required to submit all monitoring reports to the
MPCA correctly and on time, demonstrate consistent compliance through monitoring or surveys and
employ MPCA-certified operators. This award acknowledges the dedication and hard work of the
previous Chief Wastewater Operator Gary Leirmoe and his staff.
The wastewater treatment plant has received this award 14 times since 1979. In 2001, the plant received
second place in the National Wastewater Management Excellence Awards Program.
Attached is a letter from the MPCA Commissioner John Linc Stine informing the City of the Certificate
of Commendation received for the period October 1, 2012, to September 30, 2013. The award
recognizes exemplary effort expended to comply with the MPCA Permit Program.
