By motion, approve Brian Beeman, Director of Economic Development to attend the final course for
Economic Development Certification through NDC.
Background/Discussion
Staff proposes the Director attend ED300-The Art of Deal Structuring training September 14-19 in Los
Angeles, CA.
The National Development Council (NDC) offers intense,rigorous courses focused on finance for
economic development professionals. Each course covers as many hours as an average college class,and
culminates in a final examination. Courses teach crucial economic development finance skills.
The course is part of a four-course Economic Development Finance Professional certification.
Information about the course is attached.
Economic development finance is an essential function of the Director's position.Job duties such as
administering the micro-loan fund, assisting prospective clients through the development process and
marketing financing programs all rely heavily on knowledge of economic development financing.The
NDC coursework will help Mr. Beeman establish a better understanding of all of these topics.
September 18 is a regularly scheduled EDA meeting. Mr. Beeman will prepare the agenda packet and
appoint a staff person to fill in for the meeting. Mr. Beeman will be available before or after the NDC
training to answer any questions from the EDA meeting.
Following the completion of this course,Mr. Beeman will be certified as an Economic Development
Finance Professional.
Financial Impact
The tuition is $1125 if paid through early registration.Additional costs incurred from airline tickets, hotel,
food, travel, and parking is estimated at$1,359.
