PRSR INFORMATION 02-13-2002 • Arena Script 2002
The Elk River Arena and its staff are dedicated to maintaining a safe and clean building
while providing unparalleled customer service and programs for our guests. The friendly
staff is committed to making our customers'visit to the Arena an enjoyable experience.
The Breakaway Spring and Summer hockey leagues continue to be popular. The league
begins spring play in mid March and plays through April. The Fall league begins in Mid
August and ends the first part of October. The main objective of the league is to let the
players have fun while participating in a competitive league.
The Skating Academy continues to see participation grow. The skaters that began a with
the Academy a few years back are now participating in competitions and are doing very well.
A new customer that has emerged from the Skating Academy is the Skate Club. The Skate
Club is much like the Youth Hockey Association where the parents have their own board of
directors that manage the association.
Santa once again made an appearance at the Arena for an open skating session. The session
was free to the general public with donations being accepted for the CAER food shelves.
During the off season when the ice is out of the Barn, the rink floor is used for dry floor
events. Youth parties are held three times a year, in the spring, summer, and fall. The
parties give youth the opportunity to have fun in a safe environment.
Arts and Craft fairs are held the first weekend in May and the second week in September
each year. These fairs bring in very talented people from woodworking, pottery, embroidery
and every thing in between. Customers can purchase handcrafted items that are different
from anything you could buy in stores.
The Arena is proud to host the Elk River Chamber of Commerce business expo, which is
held in April. The expo gives local businesses and organizations the opportunity to show off
their products and to get acquainted with the public.
The biggest highlight of 2001 was in August, when Dan Hinote form the Colorado
Avalanche brought the Stanley Cup to the Elk River Arena. Dan is a 1995 graduate from
Elk River and is a role model to thousands of skaters not only in Elk River but across the
country.
The major improvement to the Arena this past year is the addition of bleachers to the
Olympic rink. Heating and a PA Systemr were also added to the area to complete the
project. The bleachers have helped with crowd control during big games and are very
popular among the spectators.
Other improvements are the lighting over the rink in the Barn as well as the center grove in
the barn, which has helped to insulate the Arena and give it a finished look.
Wall to wall matting was installed in the bathrooms, which has helped to maintain them.
•
The rink floor in the Barn continues to be a p roblem. Like last season we were in the floor
making repairs and we will be in the floor this season making more repairs. Over the years
we have played the odds that floor would hold up another year and we have won. Now the
odds are against us and if the floor is not replaced soon it's just a matter of time before we
will lose big.
Our main goals and objectives for 2002 are to continue to provide quality programming and
friendly service to all our customers while controlling costs.
The Arena gets busier each year with the juggling of programming, customer needs, and the
implementation of the maintenance program. The Arena staff is ready and excited to meet
these challenges in the coming year.
