Receive information related to amendments suggested to facilitate the implementation of the
Comprehensive Plan.
Background/Discussion
Common after the approval of a comprehensive plan is the identification of a number of ordinance
amendments necessary to complete implementation of the plan. While the recently-approved
comprehensive plan did not chart new ground in the direction of the community,a number of
amendments have been identified by staff, and include:
Zoning map amendments:
• Focused Area Study Area
• Mississippi Connections Area
• Mining Area
• Add a Commercial Reserve Area to the west side of Highway 169
Incentives:
• Encourage natural resource preservation
• Develop a tree ordinance
• Green building techniques
• Storm water storage and treatment
General ordinances:
• County road buffer screening
• Landscaping: define appropriate species
• Storm water regulations
• Park dedication (with the Parks Master Plan)
• Accessory"mother-in-law" apartments in Single-Family Zoning
• Parking regulations: bank stacking, compact car sizes
Review design criteria:
• Business Park/ Industrial districts
• Downtown District
• Highway Business

Other amendments identified by staff:
■ Breweries/wineries
• Landscaping loopholes
• Review of the Planned Unit Development approval process
Over the next several months, staff will initiate amendments based on this list. As the Comprehensive
Plan is used, additional ordinance amendments,incentives, and programs will be introduced.
