KiGopher State Treasure Hunters Club Minutes
May 20th, 2014
President Hank Drews called to order the May 20th meeting of the Gopher State Treas-
Aure Hunters club at 7:30 P.M. There were 41 members and 4 guests in attendance.
One of our new members, Dana (sorry, last name N/A), presented the club with a great hunt-
ing opportunity! She had secured permission for our club members to hunt a previ-
ously undetected area. The site is the Coffee Mill Ski &Snowboard Resort in Wabasha. This
is roughly 82 miles from the Twin Cities. Each person is to bring at least one trash bag for the
purpose of picking up litter at the resort. This will take place Saturday, June 21st from approx-
imately 10:00am to 3:00pm. The club will have access to the entire Coffee Mill Ski area. This
sounds like a golden opportunity, thank you Dana for thinking of the club!
Vice President Dwayne Hatzenbeller handed out this year's Ramsey County detecting
permits. Dwayne, thank you once again for taking time to obtain these for our club
members.

As you may have heard already, longtime club member Jean Bickett passed away just re-
cently. Chuck Clausen presented the club with an idea of which will help us preserve the
memory of Jean. He suggested that we continue to collect pull tabs en masse, however, this
would from here on in be referred to as `Pull tabs for Jean". He would like to see us refer to
0 pull tabs as `for Jeans". The tabs will then be donated in her name. The motion was passed
unanimously. We will all miss you, Jean. Thank you Chuck for the great idea and remem-
brance.
Treasurer Kathy Casey presented the club's finances: Entering April's meeting we had
R9 $946.18. Entering May's meeting we have $1165.18. The specifics: Income— 50/50 jackpot
($60.00), coin raffle ($49.00), nine membership dues: 6 family memberships @ $30.00 each
& 3 individual memberships @ $25.00 each, which yielded ($240.00) Expenses— 50/50 jack-
pot ($30.00), coin raffle (n/a) and silver dime category prizes—check for Dwayne ($100.00).

na) gave an extremely interesting talk about antique bottle hunting and collecting. Although
we metal detect, finding bottles is often a byproduct of our hunts and it pays to know what
you've found. Steve explained as well as provided examples of handmade and machine

Steve Ketcham graciously donated an antique bottle for a club contest. Hank Drews
presented the club with an "unknown" mystery object that he had unearthed recently. Every-
one was asked to give their best guess as to what this object might be. The club then voted
'14Sy on what they deemed to be the best guess. Chuck thought it was an electrical insulator and
the club agreed. Nice guess Chuck, and thank you to Steve Ketcham for the prize.
Vice President Dwayne Hatzenbeller conducted the May `Bring and Brag". Entries included
finds discovered since our last meeting in April.
The winners as well as the other entries for May were as follows:
Most Coins: 680 coins ($35.64) found by Hank Drews. Also found were: 450 coins
($24.10), two others submitted (N/A, as tags not left behind on table)
Most Unusual: "The Parker" Hotel (1903) name plate from Minneapolis, Kansas found
by Joel Nease. Other entries included: butterfly button, wolf cub item, brass serial number
plate from clamshell digger made between 1917 & 1931, keys that were lost 27 years, mis-
spelled token (White "Baer" Lake), child's shoe buckle, split bolt, Frigidaire key tag, "JI Case"
watch fob, carwash token, 10 Yen coin and a "Parry Buggy" carriage token.
Best Jewelry: An engraved gold filled locket with picture found by Judy Clausen. Al-
so submitted were: An old scarf clasp, silver colored locket, dollar sign, gold plated St. Chris-
topher metal, two charms (heart w/opal &flower), 1986 World Series ring and a .925 preg-
nancy ring.
Best Silver Jewelry: A silver ring with a cross on it found by Chuck Clausen. Also
found: A .925 men's size 11 ring & a 1975 Vatican pendant.
(0 Best Gold Jewelry: A 14K gold bracelet found by Jill Weimer. Also submitted: N/A
Best Coin: 1876 Seated quarter found by Jerry Loose. Other entries included: 1903-S
Barber half dollar, 1946-D Walking Liberty half dollar, 1856 Seated dime, 1905 Barber dime,
CT 1905 Barber dime, 1936 Mercury dime, 1847 large cent, 1901 Indian cent, 1905 Indian cent
& 1915 Canadian dime.
Best Toy: Very old school bus found by James Wedo. Also found: silver car made in
Hong Kong, cat's eye orbit bike light, military man, Model "B" Tootsie Toy1950's bubble gum
EE machine ringyellow car from Disney "Cars" movie, hand grenade & dart tip.
Outside 5-state area: A 1924 Mercury dime found by Hank Drews. Others found: N/A
The subject of a club garage sale was introduced. Typically this has been held during
March's meeting, but failed to occur earlier this year. The club voted and it will be held during
‘&5 June's meeting.
Raffles were run.
