Ells River MEMORANDUM TO: Park and Recreation Commission IAi FROM: Michele McPherson, 'irector of Planning DATE: May 9, 2001 SUBJECT: Devine Barn Refurbishment Plan and Budget Refurbishment Plan Since its acquisition in 2000,staff has been working on a refurbishment plan and budget for the Devine Barn located in Trott Brook Farms. The proposed plans include: • ❑ construction of a silo to provide a second means of access to the upper level ❑ construction of an outside ramp for ADA access ❑ construction of a unisex bathroom in the lower level ❑ installation of heat and lighting ❑ reroofing Until the access to the second floor is constructed,staff proposes to program only the lower level. Staff proposes to re-roof the barn in and refurbish the lower level in 2001. The access and refurbishment of the upper level will be scheduled in the CIP for future years Budget Staff has identified the following cost estimates for the 2001 improvements to the barn: Roof: $11,000 Windows: $ 3,600 Doors: $ 1,200 Restroom: $ 2,000 Floor: $ 3,500 Interior: $ 7,500 Insulation: $ 1,350 Trim: $ 1,000 Electrical: $ 2,000 • Total: $31,150 S:\PLANNING\MICHMC\PARKNREC\DevineBarn.doc Park and Recreation Commission Devine Barn Plan May 9,2001 Page 2 Staff has obtained one bid for the roofing project(tear-off and shingle). The construction of the interior improvements will also be bid. There is still approximately$79,000 from the original$165,000 Trott Brook Farms budget. The uncompleted items remaining include the baseball field backstop and the hockey boards. We have an additional set of hockey boards that were originally built for the Gary Street rink site that can be transferred to and used at the Trott Brook Farms park site. Recommendation Staff recommends that the Commission recommend to the City Council the expenditure of up to $32,000 for the items identified above for the Trott Brook Barn. • ID
