SUBJECT: Request by BLAST to Conduct September Event at Hillside
City Park
We have received a written request (attached) from BLAST to conduct a fall mountain
biking event on September 29,2001 at Hillside City Park. The purpose of the event would
be to introduce to and educate the community about mountain biking. There will be no
• charge to attendees wishing to watch the mountain bikers.
During this time, Commissioner Dave Anderson would also like to discuss some
improvements to Hillside City Park to enhance the mountain bike trails installed and
maintained by the BLAST group.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission endorse the September 29th event to be conducted
by BLAST at Hillside City Park.

• The BLAST is proposing to have a fall event on September 29th 2001, similar to the past
event held last spring on May 5th. We are looking to bring the community together to bring
and awareness to mountain biking and educate people on in the sport of mountain biking by
holding events for riders in all age groups young and old and will include riding the trails as
well as spectating. This event is open to the public and there is no charge to people who
wish to watch the events.
The BLAST has always focused on running a fun event for the entire family and this event
will be the same. We will be offering kids races with free shirt and schwagg for all young
riders. Beginner, sport and expert riders will ride the trails and distance of laps will be
determined by race day conditions and abilities.
The BLAST will put and announcement sign at the trail head to alert trail users of the event
date and time. As always,the BLAST event will be insured and like last time we will provide
Phil Hals a certificate of insurance for the event. Upon approval by the Park Board we will
coordinate the schedule of events and any other information that will be required by City
Staff. Parking for the event will be like last time with cars using the composting area with
overflow at the side of the access road and the front trail head parking area if necessary.
