Action Requested
Approve,by motion,the Interim Use Permit (IUP) extension request by Spectrum High School to utilize
the space at 17834 Industrial Circle for wrestling and fitness classes in the Business Park Zoning District,
with the following conditions:
1. The IUP shall expire on June 1, 2015, or when the gym facility at 17834 Industrial Circle
is no longer in use,whichever occurs first.
2. Additional extensions to the IUP will not be granted.
3. As an IUP is not a Building Permit, the applicant shall obtain all required permits,
including approvals from the fire chief, city engineer and building official.
4. The standards for issuance of the Conditional Use Permit (CU 10-22) shall continue to be
maintained.
5. Due to the industrial nature of the neighborhood,the school recognizes that noise, odors,
truck traffic, and other undesirable effects may be present.

Spectrum High School is requesting a one-year extension of their IUP to hold fitness and wrestling
programs at 17834 Industrial Circle.
They recently received approval to establish a sixth grade education campus at 11044 Industrial Circle,
which includes a new gym space. The fitness and wrestling programs will move to the new gym,but it is
not expected to be completed until the fall/winter of 2014.
The extension will ensure the activities continue,uninterrupted,through the winter months. The IUP
will expire when the fitness equipment is removed from 17834 Industrial Circle or June 1, 2015,
whichever occurs first.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission had no concerns and unanimously recommended approval of the extension.

Dear Mr. Carlton,
We are writing to request a twelve month extension for the Interim Use Permit (IUP)for the
property at 17834 Industrial Circle. We will discontinue use of the property at 17834 Industrial
Circle if we are able to move into the gymnasium of the new 6th Grade Education Center before
the end of the twelve month extension of the IUP. The property at 17834 Industrial Circle is
used for the Spectrum wrestling program and other afterschool athletic activities. The current
IUP expires on August 15, 2014.
We anticipate opening the new 6th Grade Education Center this fall. Since the gymnasium in
the 6th Grade Education Center may not be completed until October, the additional twelve
months for the IUP will offer either a seamless transition for after school activities from the
warehouse space to the new gymnasium or an extension if the 6th Grade Education Center
project is delayed for up to one year.
