SUBJECT: Watson Street Trail Connection
Overview
Staff inspected the trail connection requested by the Watson Street neighborhood on Friday,
July 29th. Staff will provide video of the area in question for viewing by the Commission at
the meeting.
• Staff has determined that it is possible to provide a second connection to the railroad grade
in this area. However,in order to do so approximately 10 to 15 trees in excess of two inches
in caliper will need to be removed. There will also need to be some type of a cut made as
there is approximately a 6 foot grade difference from the top of the bank to the railroad
grade. Staff would suggest doing this through the use of a skid loader to minimize the
impact to the trees and environment in this area.
If the neighborhood residents desire this connection,a condition of approval should be that
they take responsibility to maintain the trail with materials(i.e.class V)provided by the City.
Once maintenance stops on the trail,the City would allow the native vegetation to resume its
growth and the connection to cease to exist.
Recommendation
Staff requests that the Commission provide further direction regarding this trail connection.
