SUBJECT: Discuss May Park Tour
In 1999, the Commission toured a number of park sites within the community
including the proposed park at Windsor Park, Baldwin, Barrington, Hillside and
Country Crossing 1st and 3rd Parks. Many of the remaining parks available for
touring will be dedicated for permanent open space or passive recreation
opportunities.
The May park tour may be a good opportunity to begin discussing regional parks.
Items yet to be decided regarding regional parks include:
A. Minimum size
• B. General location
C. Physical characteristics (i.e., presence of water, trees, topography, etc.)
Staff has been analyzing the eastern Elk River area regarding property
ownership, size of parcels, areas of trees and water, and have identified possible
parcels for acquisition. For the May park tour, staff proposes that the
Commission drive around east Elk River to look at these proposed sites, as well
as visiting East Twin Lakes Park in Ramsey and possibly, Otsego Park to review
the various amenities and land area for regional park ideas.
Recommendation
Staff requests that the Commission provide further direction to staff regarding the
May park tour.
