SUBJECT: Leukemia Race - Post Race Review
Commissioner Dave Anderson requested that the Commission discuss the
Leukemia Race which was held in early May. It appears that the race organizer,
instead of posting signs along the trail edges, chose to paint arrows and numbers
on the trail surface itself. This was done contrary to the direction given to the
organizer by staff as well as Commissioner Dave Anderson. The numbers and
letters have since been covered with blacktop sealer, however, this will more
than likely wear off eventually, revealing the white paint underneath.
• Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission discuss this issue and if it feels
appropriate, direct staff to send a letter to the race organizer indicating that city
parks would not be available to him in future years. The Commission could
identify a length of time that this race could not be held in Woodland Trails Park.
