9.C.1. PRSR MAINTENANCE 06-14-2000 r-Q \14 - Item #9.C.1. - Maintenance ty of lk River MEMORANDUM TO: Park and Recreation Commission FROM: Michele McPherso , 'irector of Planning DATE: June 14, 2000 SUBJECT: Gopher Trapping Commissioner Dave Anderson provided the attached information regarding pocket gopher trapping. It appears that Commissioner Anderson has suggested paying $5 per gopher which also includes raking mounds in mowed areas. Unfortunately, this is a maintenance issue, as opposed to a park development issue. Therefore, I believe funds from the park dedication fund could not be used for this activity, however, perhaps donations from the adopt-a-park program could be used to fund this activity, should the Commission desire to see this continue. • Recommendation Please provide direction to staff regarding this issue. • S:\PLANNING\MICHMC\PARKN REC\gophers.doc 13065 Orono Parkway • P.O. The local bounty does not seem to be enough to keep young trappers interested. Last year I talked to Phil and suggested paying $5 per gopher which would include raking mounds in mowed areas. I am bringing this to Park and Rec to get Phil off the hook on figuring if and/or how this should be funded. The trapper I am working with is Ross Wood age 13. 1999 gopher count 12- City Garage 4- Woodland Trails 16X $5= $80 • 2000 gopher count is 2 so far •
