MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT: Cross Country Races at Woodland Trails Park
Staff has contacted Mike Niziolek of Elk River Senior High School regarding
summer races at Woodland Trails Park. He has indicated that two races will be
conducted this year at Woodland Trails Park:
1. Saturday, July 29th, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. —This is a citizens'
running race similar to that conducted in 1999 on Saturday, July 31St
2. The Elk River Invitational to be conducted Thursday, September 28th, from
• 1:30 p.m. to sundown.
The areas that are typically utilized in the park include the grass trails on the
south side of the park, the staging area south of the parking lot, and the parking
lot. We have received no complaints from the 1999 events. We would anticipate
that the cross-country runners would post appropriate signage and would not
utilize paint for trail markers, etc.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission support these two running events at
Woodland Trails Park on the dates noted.
