SUBJECT: Outdoor Skating Rink Locations
As winter is coming upon us, staff felt it appropriate at this time to identify and
agree to outdoor skating rink locations. In 1999, rinks were located at the Gary
Street water tower site, on Lake Orono, at Lions Park and at Handke Elementary
School. Staff is proposing to use these same locations for 2000, however, staff
is proposing to acquire a plastic film for the Gary Street site in the hopes that it
will aid in maintaining usable ice. In 1999, it was difficult to maintain ice at the
• Gary Street site due to the soil conditions. Phil Hals will provide estimates of this
plastic film at the meeting.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Park and Recreation Commission provide input or
concurrence with staffs recommendation regarding outdoor rink sites for the
2000 season.
