PRSR 1-13-1999 JAN-06-99 WED 03:15 PM COMMUNITY Ell FAX;16111413511 PAGE 1 ITEM 18.a Elk River Park and Recreation Commission Community Recreation Update-January 13, 1999 • :Winter'99 Recreation : The Winter brochure was delivered on December 30th. with mass registration taking place on Saturday January 0th.The program menu consists of: Outdoor skating lessons, Indoor skating lessons, Open gyms, Indoor walking, "Smart Starr intro to athletic programs for soccer, basketball, t-ball, floor hockey. Gymnastics, Intramural basketball, Sleigh ride, various dances, pool tournaments, etc. at Youthbound. Our office is also involved with assisting the youth cross country ski program Team Ingemar that meets at Lions Park. Our office is also assisting with the Woodlands Loppet cross country citizens race that is scheduled for Sunday January 10th. pdate Fak mil Sleigh Ride at Woodland Trails: Has been scheduled for Saturday Feb. 13, 2-4 pm. Corn. ED, and ECFE arc also involved with this program to offer various activities for youth and families as part of this winter time event. -Collaborative Program Development Considerations W/Corn. Rec.. CQn,.Ed. & ECFE: Over the past several months staff representatives from Community Recreation, Community Education and ECFE have been working at developing quality programs and variety to best meet the needs of the community. Staff cannot do this alone, thus we are planning to better involve and inform related program advisory bodies to 1111 strengthen our efforts. One of our goals is to increase understanding and awareness of each organizations mission, goals, etc. and to also utilize this knowledge to better plan and maximize all efforts. We are planning our first meeting to begin this process for Tuesday January 19th 6:30- 8:00 pm. I am asking for 1-2 representatives from the Elk River Park and Recreation Commission that are willing to be involved and can commit to this important step to future program development. Skating Rinks: Opened later than usual this year due to warm weather until approx. December 20th. Attendance at Lions park has been significantly higher this year than in past years.
