Background/Discussion
Jacquel Nissen started her internship June 23, 2014 as the EDA/HRA Marketing Intern.Jacquel is
required to provide regular updates on her activities to the EDA and HRA in order to gain experience
speaking to boards and commissions. As one of the many intern projects, designing targeted industry
informational binders and distributing them to prospective developers is among them. The city targets
four industries; data centers, energy related companies, High-tech Manufacturers, and Medical Device
companies. Each industry binder is customized to a specific industry, and constructed to promote the
City of Elk River to potential site selectors and developers sending a consistent positive message.
Included in each binder is information specific to the industry including: demographics for Elk River and
Sherburne County, electrical reliability, Municipal Utility reports, environmental information and land use
maps, city zoning maps,regulatory information specific to the industry, transportation/ infrastructure
maps, financing tools, and workforce information. The Binders will be available at industry specific trade
shows, and economic development events, attended by site selectors. It is anticipated that the industry
binders will be completed by the end of September.
