Approve,by motion,the purchase and equipping of a 2015 Ford Explorer PUV for use by the Special
Services Sergeant.
Background/Discussion
Council approved the position of Special Services Sergeant in the 2014 budget. The requirements of the
position necessitate a work schedule which frequently overlaps the shifts of other sergeants. As a result,
the Special Services Sergeant is unable to be assigned to a specific supervisor squad.
The job assignment of the Special Services Sergeant requires transportation of crime prevention supplies,
informational displays, speed monitoring trailers, and other equipment. Having a squad specifically
assigned to this sergeant will increase his effectiveness and efficiency.
The police department would like to purchase 2015 Ford Explorer PUV off of the State contract for use
by the Special Services Sergeant. This vehicle is similar to other vehicles in the fleet.
Though this purchase is not in the 2014 capital budget, adequate funds exist in the police forfeiture
account to cover the cost of purchasing, equipping,and setting up this vehicle.
Because this squad will primarily be assigned to one person,its service life is expected to be
approximately seven years.
Financial Impact
Total cost of vehicle purchase, equipment,and set up will not exceed $35,000. All expenses will come
from the police department forfeiture fund.
