SUBJECT: Volunteer Picnic
It is my understanding that one of the items on the Park and Recreation Commission
workplan was sponsorship of a volunteer picnic. As we begin to plan this event, the
following questions need to be answered:
• When? September or October would probably be ideal months. Does the
Commission want to have an evening or a Saturday event. If it is in the evening,
should it occur on a regular meeting night in lieu of a regular meeting?
• Where? Which park facility does the Commission want to "showcase"?
• Who is to be invited? If a number of groups are invited, are just the leaders invited
or the entire membership?
• • What are we feeding the attendees? Bar-be-que? Hot dogs/brats, chips and pop
would probably be the easiest. Who would cook or should we have it catered?
• Will there be some type of program?
We will need a subcommittee of interested Commission members to help staff plan this
event.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission:
1. identify possible dates
2. brainstorm a list of invitees
3. identify a park location
at its July meeting. Interested Commission members can then assist staff in the
remaining details.
