Background/Discussion
Manufacturing is the backbone of Minnesota's economy,thanks to the sector's strength,versatility, and
innovation.
Manufacturing contributes $43.7 billion to the state economy and accounts for 16 percent of Minnesota's
gross domestic product.
Minnesota ranks 20"'among all states for manufacturing exports and it ranks 17`'' among states for the
number of jobs (136,900) generated by manufactured exports.

MN Manufacturer's Week
October 20-25, 2014
WHEREAS, the manufacturing industry is a dynamic part of Minnesota's economy,and
promotion of this sector's strength, success and high quality of life is an integral part of
Minnesota's economic development strategy; and
WHEREAS,manufacturing provides high skill,high wage jobs which significantly
contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living and economic vitality; and
WHEREAS,manufacturing has the second largest total payroll among business sectors in
Minnesota,providing$16.4 billion in wages; and
WHEREAS,manufacturing produces $40 billion for the state economy and is the largest
share, 15 percent of our gross domestic product; and
WHEREAS,manufactured exports brought over $18.7 billion into the Minnesota
economy in 2013.
NOW, THEREFORE,I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of the City of Elk River, do hereby
proclaim that,the week of October 20—October 25, 2014 shall be observed as:
Minnesota Manufacturer's Week
in the City of Elk River on this 6 h day of October, 2014.
