SUBJECT: Regular Meeting of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission
This is to remind you of our upcoming meeting on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at
the Elk River City Hall in the Uppertown Conference Room. Please see the attached agenda
and minutes.
General Business
6.1 Water Tower Subcommittee Update
The water tower subcommittee will provide an update.
6.2 Walking Tour Update
Chair Fox will provide an update.
6.3 HPC Annual Report
The 2014 annual report of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission is due
October 30,2014.The report outlines the activities of the HPC for the period between
October 1,2013,and September 30,2014,and is a requirement for maintaining Certified
Local Government status. Please review the draft report and provide feedback during the
meeting.
6.4 Jackson Street Water Tower Condition Assessment RFP
Staff requests approval to advertise for bids to hire a consultant to prepare a Condition
Assessment report for the Jackson Street Water Tower.The consultant will be paid with a
combination of the funds collected during the 2013 History Day in Elk River and the CLG
grant received earlier this year. Staff anticipates posting the solicitation later this month.

Staff Updates
7.1 AASLH Conference Recap
Conference attendees will provide an update of their experience.Also,conference
attendees must complete their conference questionnaire by October 30,2014.
7.2 Future Projects
After reviewing previous annual reports and talking with l-IPC Commissioners there are
opportunities that the Commission can explore in the coming year. Please review the
following list and provide additional activities at the meeting.
• Salk Middle School History Fair Judging
• Archaeological Study of the Houlton property if/when acquired
• Survey and record grave markers at cemeteries in the city (Orono,Vernon)
• History Day Elk River during Art Soup in downtown
