Building Construction Project Update: Kraus Anderson
Item 5.5.
Representatives from Kraus-Anderson, the construction management firm for the Public
Safety-City Hall-Utilities project, are scheduled to be at this Ciw Council meeting. Don
Stutesman and/or Jim Beckxvith will be in attendance. Items to discuss `*vith the City Council
include a general update on the status of the project; plus some specific issues, including, but
not lhmted to:
· Status of thc masonry work and possible action against The Saint Paul Companies to
recover city expenses beyond the original bid amount.
· Status of the Public Safety gun range.
· Explanation of the City Hall project dumpster bill.
· Timetable for completion of the Utilities, the City Hall Council Chambers and
Wellness Room, outside landscaping, and the punch list items.
The Pubhc Safety-City HaH-Utilities construction project is nearing completion. It has been a
long and complex and expensive project. Planning for the project began in summer 2001.
The planning phase ',vas folloxved by construction starting on the Pubhc Safety and Utilities
facilities in summer 2002. These txvo projects xvere completed in the summer of 2003 and
then the Citw Hall and old Police Station rcmodchng project began. We are now completing
that phase of the project and the entire construction project is scheduled to be finalized this
summer. It has been difficult to do this project xvhile remaining open to the pubhc and
continuing to provide quahty and accessible public services. This type of project alxvays
requires a balance between public convenience, the length of time to do the project, and
money. Overall, I bcheve that both I-2raus Anderson and Tushie Montgomery have done a
very good job for the city. Has the project gone perfecdy...the ansxver of course is no, but
has the project been successful... I behevc the ansxver is yes.
