Consider a request by Furniture and Things for a General Planning Permit to allow an
outdoor sales tent in their parking lot.

Overview
Furniture and Things is requests a General Planning Permit to locate a tent in their parking
lot for outdoor sales. The size of the tent is about 40' X 60'. It will be up from April 15
through September 15.
The proposed location is near the front entrance to the store and will displace about 14
parking spaces. The location will not disrupt traffic flow nor does it create any parking
problems. The garden center has been in the same location in past years and there have not
been any problems.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve the request for a general planning permit
to allow Furniture and Things to set up a tent in their parking lot with the following
conditions:
1. THE TENT AND THE AREA AROUND THE TENT SHALL BE
MAINTAINED FREE OF DEBRIS AND KEPT IN AN ORDERLY
CONDITION.
2. NO ELECTRICAL SERVICES SHALL BE ACROSS ANY DRIVE OR
WALKING SURFACE.
3. IF TRAFFIC BECOMES A PROBLEM AROUND THE TEMPORARY
SITE, THE AREA SHALL BE DELINEATED WITH A BARRIER TO
RESTRICT TRAFFIC.
4. THE LOCATION OF THE TENT IS CONSISTENT WITH THE
SUBMITTED SITE PLAN.
5. THE TENT SHALL BE REMOVED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF THE
END OF THE SALES PERIOD AND THE SITE BE RETURNED TO ITS
PREVIOUS CONDITION.
