SR 01-05-2015 �i EOty lk Request for Action River To Item Number Mayor and City Council 5.8 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by Consent January 5, 2015 Cal Portner, City Administrator Item Description Reviewed by Interim Police Chief Pay Reviewed by Action Requested Approve,by motion,interim pay for interim police chief Background/Discussion Following the retirement of the police chief and ongoing hiring process,it is necessary to appoint an interim chief to direct the activities required of the department. The department has a Succession of Command Policy that outlines the order in which command authority is applied in the chief's absence. Patrol Division Commander is the first position listed for succession; therefore appointing Captain Nierenhausen as interim police chief. Interim appointments require additional duties, authority, and responsibility. In respect of the additional duties, authority, and responsibility, the city provides interim pay during this period,in the amount of 10% above current salary. Financial Impact The police chief position is fully funded in the 2015 budget therefore there is no financial impact. During planned absences the designated Division Commander shall act with the authority of the Chief of Police.
