Open Gyms
Open gyms will begin November 18th and are staffed. We have two staff members who
will be splitting the hours. Open gyms will be available in both Rogers and Elk River.
They are offered on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have added a
softball component to begin in January for those in softball and/or baseball to practice.
We will provide an area for them to practice throwing and catching with safe balls. This
has been a growing need over the past few years. Open gyms run through mid-March.
Auditor Update
We have been verifying information and reconciling the calendar year 2000. Gary, the
District auditor, and I have meet and I hope to have a more conclusive report by the
meeting on the 19th.
MRPA Conference
We spent the 7th and 8th of November at the MRPA Conference in Duluth and I feel like
it was a great conference and I came away with some valuable information. We attended
sessions on Tobacco Free Youth Recreation, Quality Customer Service, Managing
Today's Youth Workers, How to Motivate People, How to be a Leader, Ages and Stages
of Children and how to teach your staff this information, Concerts/Entertainment in the
Park, and more. The conference was very motivating and we are excited to implement
some of the things we learned.
Wrapping up the Year
We have also been busy, sorting through equipment and supplies and dividing up
anything necessary. T-ball equipment has been sorted and the remaining equipment
belonging to Rogers will be sorted at the end of the programs that are currently running.
We have extra shirts from past years and are looking for ideas on what to do with them.
Please let me know if you have any.
Leagues
The Co-Rec Volleyball and Women's Volleyball leagues are up and running with great
success. We are pleased with our numbers and have taken steps this year to streamline
the communication and paperwork between our office and the league. The process in
place is working very well and everyone seems happy.
