COUNTRY CROSSINGS THIRD ADDITION-
NEIGHBORHOOD/COMMUNITY PARK
Description
Country Crossings Third is approximately 3 acres with street access on
Joplin Street and trail access to Kent and Macon Streets. Over half of the
park is bound by residential back yards. A remnant woods is the center piece
of the park. The woods sit adjacent to Joplin on a north facing slope. The
remainder of the park is flat and treeless.
• Site Issues
• Preserve trees
• Utilize slope
• Buffer back yards
• Utilize trail corridor
Proposals
• All three options preserve the oak woods
• The site lends itself well to all the proposed activities including a sliding
hill, sports fields, play structure,half court, full court, and picnicking.
• Massing of vegetation defines the open space, creates buffers, provides
shade and blocks winter winds.
• All three options utilize the trail through the site, although option C
realigns the trail to the center of the corridor.
• One option includes a small sliding hill at the expense of some of the
smaller brushy trees.

• MISSISSIPPI OAKS - NEIGHBORHOOD/COMMUNITY PARK
Description
The park is approximately 1.2 acres, flat, and without existing vegetation.
The site is bound by Elgin and 180th Avenue NW on two sides and residential
back yards on two sides.
Site Issues
• Park size
• Buffering neighbors
• Buffering road
• Utility structure on corner
Proposals
• The park is limited by the relatively small size after buffering the
neighbors and the road.
• Massing of vegetation is used to create a sense of space in the park and to
define the open space, create buffers, create shade, and to block winter
winds.
• • Two of the three options use a walking path to orient the site.
• Each option contains a play structure and two options include a half court.
HILLSIDE 5TH PARK
Description
Hillside Park is approximately 4.5 acres with about 1% acres of open flat land
and the remainder in woods with a few small ponds. Access to the site is
limited to the cul-de-sac of 195th Avenue NW through a trail connector, or
through a power line easement. A water retention pond restricts access off
Auburn Street NW.
Hillside Park is unique being connected to a north/south trail corridor
following the natural gas easement. Currently the trail extends from 197th
south to Hillside. Potentially the trail could be extended and connected to
the future Deerfield 2 Park. The power line corridor is also a potential trail
corridor to the northwest.
