Background/Discussion
Each year, staff develops an annual report of activities that occurred over the past year. At one point, a
hardcopy brochure was developed and distributed. It later was published as an e-document and
maintained on the city website. Last year, we created a story map and used similar information as a
marketing tool for Standard & Poor’s rating visit. The Council is typically given a brief review of the
report at a regular meeting on camera.
Our data analytics show we have not had a lot of previous online interest in the report.
Communication has changed with the active use of social media. Our seven city Facebook pages have a
lot of traffic and feedback from those that ‘friend’ the pages as does our YouTube channel. City watchers
have become accustomed to ‘real time’ information.
The Council gets ongoing updates of activities and accomplishments and our communications staff sends
out press releases to local news media.
The Economic Development staff has updated all of our marketing information and we are continually
reviewing our website to update information.
Our award-winning budget document includes division and department goals and performance measures
as well as historical trends.
Preparation of the annual report takes considerable staff time and it doesn’t seem to draw much interest.
We would appreciate the Council’s thought on how to proceed.
