SUBJECT: HiringA Plechanic
The 2002 Street Department budget includes hiring an additional mechanic for our staff.
Bob Mahutga, Mark Thompson and I interviewed 6 of the 19 applicants. The choice
was difficult because the final 4 individuals were all very high quality mechanics.
I recommend hiring a mechanic at pay grade 9, step D or $17.76 per hour for the six
month probationary period and if his performance is satisfactory, increasing his wage to
pay grade 9, step E on July I, 2002.
I have discussed this offer with the top finalist and at the time this memo was written,
he has not responded. Mark will be on hand Monday evening with that information.
