Description
Deerfield is approximately 20 acres of rolling, wooded Maple and Oak forest
with a large healthy wetland. The large wetland bisects the park leaving the
North half nearly inaccessible. The site is bound by large lot residences on
• the South, East and West, and a farm to the North. The farm site is zoned
R1-a and is likely to be developed residential in the future. This parcel may
be important to provide access to the North half of the park. Access to the
southern portion of the park is through a 60 foot finger of land that extends
from 197th Avenue. Hillside 5th trail corridor is approximately 350 feet to the
East along the gas line easement.

Concept A
This concept considers Deerfield two parks inaccessible to each other. Public
access to the North half of Deerfield is dependent on access through future
subdivision of the farm to the North. Otherwise, the northern park will be
contained in private land with no access. This concept recommends
extending the northern park further to the North to contain all of the Oak
• woods and the gas line corridor. An entrance trail or possibly a parking lot

• to the North can be created to provide public access to the site. Both halves
of the parks are to remain relatively passive in nature with unpaved walking
trails, floating board walks where needed, piers into the water and scenic
overlooks with benches. The park boundaries are controlled with signs and
shrub plantings indicate property edges.
Concept B
This concept connects the North and South Deerfield by floating board walks
over the marshy margins of the wetland. Neighboring pathways connect into
the park from private woods and are not differentiated from the park trails.
The south end of the park has circulation for pedestrians and bikes, and the
north end of the park is accessible only to pedestrians. On the north end, a
shelter and picnic clearing in the woods has been provided. Through out the
park, overlooks with benches take advantage of views in and out of the park.
