Elk River Park and Recreation Commission
Community Recreation Update - November 11, 1998
•
- Winter '99 Recreation Program planning : Planning is underway. We expect the
program menu to consist of: Outdoor skating lessons, Indoor skating lessons, Open
gyms, Indoor walking, "Smart Start" intro to athletic programs for soccer, basketball, t-
ball, floor hockey, Gymnastics, Broomball, Intramural basketball, Adult BB & 35 +
league new for this year. , Sleigh ride, various dances, pool tournaments, etc, at
Youthbound.
- Update : Family Sleigh Ride at Woodland Trails: Exact date still TBD. Dates under
current consideration are: Jan. 23, Feb. 6, or Feb. 13. I am hopeful that Corn. ED. and
ECFE will want to collaborate on this program and their resources could add to the
event to offer some other miscellaneous Winter activities to supplement the program.
- Minnesota Recreation And Park Association Conference. Took place Nov. 4-6. I will
give a brief report on sessions I attended that may be of interest.
- Update, BMX organization: Steve W. has a report.
11111 - Concession Trailer: Paul Krause owner of Pinewood Golf Course has donated a
Concession Trailer to Youth Baseball. Youth BB and Girls Fastpitch were interested in
this to help them w/their concession ability for events they host. This will be a nice
interim solution to a concession building at YAC.
- Collaborative Program Development Considerations W/Corn. Rec.. Com.Ed. & ECFE:
Over the past several months staff representatives from Community Recreation,
Community Education and ECFE have been working at developing quality programs
and variety to best meet the needs of the community. Staff cannot do this alone, and
thus we are considering methods to strengthen our efforts. I would like to share our
ideas and get your feedback.
Please call me with any questions. 241-3523.
