Request by Rivers Edge Downtown Association to Use the
Municipal Utilities Building
Attached for your information is a letter from Wendy Simenson, President of the
Do~vntown Rivers Edge Business Association. In this letter is a request for the Rivers Edge
group to use the Municipal Utilities building for a short period this summer. The Rivers
Edge group would Like to hold a garage sale as a fund raiser and need a building to store
items that would be sold at the garage sale.
I have briefly discussed this request with Utilities General Manager Bryan Adams and he had
no problems with the Rivers Edge group using this building. The Utilities department will be
completely out of the building sometime in early May.
A key would be provided to Wendy for access to the building. The city will continue to have
insurance on the building, but not on what is stored in the building.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council allow the Downtown Rivers Edge Business
Association to use the Municipal Utilities Building for about one month this summer.

Dear Mr. Klaers,
On behalf of the Downtown Rivers Edge Business Association, I would like to
request permission to use the City's Utility Building for a short period of time this
summer after it is vacated. The RiverEdge Group would like to hold a garage sale. The
Utility Building is in an ideal location for us to collect items for sale and subsequently
hold the sale in and on the grounds around it. We would like to have use of the building
for 1 month. We would promise to remove everything that we have brought in to the
structure after we have had the sale.
As you know, the goal of the Downtown Rivers Edge group is to enhance the look
of downtown, make it a vital place and to attract more people downtown. We need to
have a revenue source, in addition to the dues of our members, to help us achieve these
goals. Having a garage sale downtown would really help us build our treasury so we
could do more for downtown.
Could you please consider this request and let us know the City's decision at your
earliest convenience so we can proceed with our plan.
