SUBJECT: Bridge Maintenance Agreement
The maintenance agreement for Bridge #86515 (Elk River/Otsego Bridge) is
reviewed and approved by the City Council every other year. The agreement
runs from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2001.
The maintenance agreement is entered into between the City of Elk River
and Wright County. Both Wright County and the City of Elk River have
specific maintenance duties and responsibilities in relation to the bridge.
These responsibilities are explained in detail in the attached Maintenance
Agreement.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Council motion approving the attached Maintenance Agreement (200-2001)
between the City of Elk River and Wright county for the maintenance on
Bridge #86515.

It is once again time to renew our maintenance agreement for the maintenance aCtivities
on Bridge 86515 as listed on the enclosed agreement.
I have enclosed two copies of the 2000-2001 agreement for your review and City
approval. Please return both copies of the executed agreement. After approval by the County
Board, one of the copies will be returned to you for your files.

MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT (2000-2001)
THIS AGREEMENT made and entered into by and between the City of Elk River hereinafter referr
'~ as the "City" and the County of Wright hereinafter referred to as the "County".
WHEREAS, it is deemed to the best interest of all parties that the duties and responsibilities of bot
the City and the County as to maintenance on Bridge//86515 and its approaches should be clearly defined.
'NOW THEREFORE, IT IS AGREED with regard to said structure maintenance:
CITY
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
(1) Maintenance of street lights;
(2)

MAINTENANCE
Removal of snow from sidewalk;
Maintenance of slopes/berms and roadway on north approach (includes: turf maintenance,
· bituminous maintenance, drainage and riprap maintenance);
Periodic sweeping to remove sand and debris and removing sand/dirt from expansion joints;
Removal of markings/spray paint etc. from visible surfaces of bridge structure.
COUNTY RESPONSIBLE FOR:
(1) Snow and ice control from bridge and approaches;
(2) Signing for bridge and approaches;
(3) Maintenance of slopes/berms and roadway on south approach (includes: turf maintenance,
bituminous maintenance, drainage and riprap maintenance);
(4) Centerline and edge pavement marking (includes stop bar).
The agreement between the City and County shall be for a two year period and run from January 1,
300 to December 31, 2001. All maintenance responsibilities will be deemed "offsetting" therefore no
payments will be required for the individual maintenance work which conforms to the areas stated herein a
performed under authorization of either the City or County.
In the event that the structure needs major maintenance/rehabilitation an agreement detailing the wo
and shared costs must be approved and accepted by the City and County.
