POLICE ACADEMY
The Elk River Police Department will be conducting a Citizen Police
Academy during the months of February, March, and April. This
Citizen Academy will include topics on patrol functions,
investigations, D.AR.E., Crime Free Multi Housing, defensive tactics,
information on our police reserves, and several other topics.

Minnesota cities and the Sherburne County Sheriff's Department.

This academy fits very well with our requirement for our C.O.P.S.
FAST grants that require us to increase the interaction between police
and our citizens. Our hope is that this will help build on and enhance
the positive working relationship we have with many of our citizens.
The classes will be every Wednesday night between 6:30 and 9:30
p.m. Classes will be conducted by several different employees
throughout the ten (1 O) week period.

The Citizen Academy is a
free 30-hour course which is
designed to give citizens a
chance to have better insight
as to what the police depart-
ment does. Furthermore, the
course is broken down into 10
separate sections designed to
show participants what types
of training is involved in order
to be a police officer.

12, will be open to citizens 16
years or older. Due to the sen-
sitive nature of some of the
material covered, all partici-
pants will be subject to a crim-
inal background check.
The Citizen Academy will be
limited to 25 participants,
and government representa-
tives, students and neighbor-
hood crime watch members.
Those who complete the
course will receive a certifi-
cate and become a member of
the Citizen Academy Alumni
Association.
