2000 Emergency Siren Purchase
In the 2000 budget, under equipment certificates capital outlay, is a $13,000
line item for the purchase of one emergency siren to be located in the city of
Elk River. At this time I have received a quote from Federal Warning Systems
located in Rochester, Minnesota, for one 2001SRN Federal Signal Corporation
Emergency Siren with the capability of a 5200-foot range of coverage. The cost
of the siren with sales tax and shipping is $10,807.93.
I would like to accept the quote from Federal Warning Systems for the
purchase of one new 2001SRN Emergency Siren at the cost of $10,807.93.
Delivery of the new siren will be approximately 30-45 days. The current 17
emergency sirens in the city of Elk River are all Federal Warning System
sirens.
I would like to update you as to where the newly purchased siren will be
located in 2000. Please refer to the enclosed map showing the existing 17 siren
locations within the city of Elk River. The second enclosed map highlights the
proposed area of coverage for the newly purchased siren. After discussion with
Glen Sundeen, Elk River Municipal Utilities, the location selected for the 2000
placement will be Ranch Road (County Road 33) and County Road 32. Future
siren locations in the city of Elk River include:
· Highway 169 and 217th Avenue NW
· 221st Avenue NW and Watson Street NW
My goal is to purchase one emergency siren in each of the next two budget
years to complete the emergency siren process. The 2000 emergency siren
project shall entail the purchasing of one new pole at a cost of approximately
$800 per pole. The electrical hook-up for the siren location will be $800. The

proposed cost for the entire 2000 project (siren, pole, electrical hook-up), using
labor provided by Elk River Utilities will be approximately $12,500. If you
have any questions in reference to this issue, please feel free to call me at 441-
4919.
I will be in attendance at the Monday, January 24, 2000, council meeting to
address this issue and answer any questions the Mayor and City Council may
have.
