Dear Phil Hall,
I have given the present Woodland Trails City Park trail plan some very
serious attention. I am greatly concerned that the present trail design
might limit the park's development as an environmental education site.
Especially since this site is one of the most ecologically diverse pieces of
property in Elk River.
I sincerely believe that an acceptable environmental education site must
have a center corridor which is not extensively broken by trails or other
forms of development. The intent of the central corridor is to serve as a
refuge for wildlife. This high quality environmental education site has
excellent viewing areas of the central corridor for observing wildlife.
I believe that we can achieve a quality environmental educational site if
we close the eastern most trails on the prairie site. If this is
• accomplished we would have a central corridor of a prairie, oak forest and
wetland. However, from the perimeter trails and interpretive center we
would have excellent viewing of the central wildlife corridor.
It was very difficult for me to write this letter because I do not want to
hurt anyone's feelings or disrupt the progress toward the development of
the Woodland Trails City Park. However, I do believe it is critical that we
look carefully at the present and future development activities in the park
if we are to develop the park as an environmental education site.
Sincerely Yours,

Mike Niziolek
