Meeting Schedule
On 2/14/00 I would like to update the City Council on the meeting schedule for
the next few months.
To begin, City Clerk Sandy Peine needs to review options for the Board of
Adjustment meeting (at the end of April or first part of May).
In the not too distant future, staff needs to spend between one and two hours
with the City Council to discuss the capital improvement program (CIP). In
this regard, funding for the east Elk River and the Business Center
Drive/Waco projects are the two main topics that need to be reviewed. One
date the council may consider for this discussion is Monday, March 6, which
will require a special meeting.
Tuesday, February 22 - Mayor Klinzing indicated that she, and quite
possibly another councilmember, would like to attend the orientation session
for the three new Planning Commission members. February 22 is the planning
public hearing night and the agenda is light. Accordingly, all of the Planning
Commission has been invited to the meeting so that the city attorney and
director of planning can have a planning orientation session with both the City
Council and the entire Planning Commission. Peter Beck and Michele
McPherson will lead the discussion on current "hot" planning topics, the legal
limitations and the legal requirements for a planning commission to review
certain applications, guiding principals in making planning commission
recommendations, and other topics of this sort. This will be a review for some
City Council members, but it is good to have this type of"Planning 101"
worksession with both the City Council and the Planning Commission every
few years.

Monday, February 28 - HRA meeting at 5 p.m. - City Council and Park and
Recreation Commission joint meeting at 6 p.m.
Monday, March 6 - No City Council meeting scheduled, but it is possible
that a special meeting will be called for a CIP discussion.
Monday, March 13 - EDA meeting at 6 p.m. - City Council meeting
immediately following. Known agenda items include
· Business Center Drive/Waco Street public hearing on the public
improvement project
· Planning Commission to be present for a joint meeting - topics yet to be
decided, but anticipated to include tree preservation ordinance and
comprehensive plan review (the Planning Commission is having a
worksession on Saturday, 3/11/00 to discuss and review agenda items)
Monday, March 20 - City Council meeting at 6 p.m. (Planning public hearing
meeting - large agenda is anticipated).
Monday, March 27 - HRA meeting at 5 p.m. - City Council meeting at 6 p.m.
(on a preliminary basis, it has been indicated that two councilmembers may be
absent from this meeting)
Monday, April 3 - No City Council meeting scheduled.
Monday, April 10 - EDA meeting at 6 p.m. - Joint meeting between the City
Council and County Board at Sherburne County Government Center at 7 p.m.
Thursday, April 13 - Volunteer Recognition Program - 6 p.m., Riverwood
Conference Center - Hunt Club.
Monday, April 17 - City Council meeting at 6 p.m. (Planning public hearing
meeting).
Monday, April 24 - HRA meeting at 5 p.m. - City Council meeting at 6 p.m.
(Annual Report meeting)...It is anticipated that all or most of the 15
department heads that make annual reports will be present for this meeting.
The schedule calls for an approximate 25 minute video of some city activities
followed by the city administrator giving a 30-45 minute (2-3 minute per
department) presentation. A question/answer session with the council and
department heads will follow the video and presentation. The 15 annual
reports will be distributed for council review throughout March and April.
Wednesday, April 26 (tentative) - Board of Review meeting at 6 p.m. at
Sherburne County Government Center.
Monday, May 1 - No City Council meeting scheduled.
At least one other event/meeting that the City Council should keep in mind is
that we need to schedule MnDOT officials to come to Elk River for their
annual tour of the city. This did not happen last year for a variety of reasons,
but it is important for us to keep in frequent contact with MnDOT regarding
how the city is proceeding on projects that are discussed and reviewed with
them. We have a very good relationship with MnDOT and it is very important
for this to continue. Typically this event includes a bus tour of the city and
lunch, and is between 9:30-2:30 on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday in
May.
