SUBJECT: Sidewalks and Trails in the Western
Area
With the extension of City utilities from Orono Parkway out to the County
Courthouse, the next phase of the western area is beginning to open up for
development opportunities. Although most of the infrastructure has not been
completed, the planning for development activity first thing in the spring
have begun. Therefore, in anticipation of this next surge of growth, it is
important for the Park and Recreation Commission to begin discussing some
of the pedestrian system (sidewalk and trails) and park needs in the western
area of the community. Attached is a location map which illustrates the
western area along with the phasing of development towards our western
limits.
• Some concept plans of how the pedestrian systems may be laid out within
this western area should be ready by Wednesday night's meeting to help
facilitate the discussion. There certainly does not need to be any resolution
to this issue at Wednesday night's meeting, however, it is important to begin
discussing these issues as development requests are beginning to come
forward.
