Elk River TO: PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
FROM: PHIL HALS, STREET/PARK
SUPERINTENDENT
DATE: MARCH 2, 1990 6B
SUBJECT: 1990 Park Capital Improvements
The following pages contain a list of capital improvements that
were compiled by staff. There is no particular order of
importance to either the listing of parks or the improvements
for each park.
I would ask each member to consider the improvements and note
the ones that you feel are of a higher priority. About $25,000
is available for 1990 project funding. The amount does not
have to come out to the penny as any funds that are not spent
remain in the Park Dedication Fund.
Please note that I have included in the list some cost for
trail construction and surfacing. The figures are for a ten
. foot wide trail with the costs at X number of dollars per one
thousand lineal feet or per mile as noted. I also noted three
different surface treatments, Class five gravel, crushed
limestone and bituminous . The Class five or crushed limestone
would be used individually, depending on the surface desired,
while the bituminous would require the Class five in addition
for base material.
•
Also included are two catalog pictures of playground equipment
that will give you some idea of what is available for the
. . $5,000 and $10,000 price range. ... :. . . ..
As an item for discussion, I have included a price on a 2 acre,
man made swimming pond.
The capital improvement items are not restricted to' the ones on
the following pages. I would encourage the Park and Recreation
Commission to add ideas of their own. The projects that are
-------------recommended- by the Park -and Recreation Commission will - be-given '
to the City Council for their approval. I will be on hand on
March 7, to add any additional information that I may have.
