79-006 RES RESOLUTION 79-6 A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ELK RIVER AND THE ELK RIVER MUNICIPAL UTILITIES REQUESTING THAT THE ANOKA ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE CONSIDER THE PURCHASE OF THE ELK RIVER MUNICIPAL 0 UTILITIES ETPCTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF ZIMMERMAN AND SOUTH TO THE ELK RIVER CITY LIMITS WHEREAS, The Elk River Municipal Utilities electrical service to the City of Zimmerman has been found to be inadequate to serve both the immediate needs of the residents in the area and the future needs which are being created by the growth and expansion of the Zimmerman area; and, WHEREAS, The Elk River Municipal Utilities has considered various alternatives for providing increased electrical service to the City of Zimmerman area, including the construction of a substation in Zimmerman and purchasing energy from the United Power Association and the construction of a new larger trans- mission line from Elk River to Zimmerman; and, WHEREAS, The various alternatives considered by the Elk River Municipal Utilities had been found to place an undue cost burden on the City of Zimmerman customers; and, WHEREAS, The Anoka Electric Cooperative owns and maintains electrical distribution facilities in and around the Zimmerman area; and, WHEREAS, It appears that it is more economical for all parties concerned and more equitable to the residents of the City of Zimmerman if 1110 the Anoka Electric Cooperative provided electrical service to the City of Zimmerman; and, WHEREAS, The City of Zimmerman has indicated its support for a change from the Elk River Municipal Utilities to the Anoka Electric Cooperative. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED by the Elk River City Council and the Elk River Municipal Utilities that the Anoka Electric Cooperative is hereby requested to consider the purchase of the entire electrical system owned by the Elk River Municipal Utilities in the City of Zimmerman, and south to the Elk River City limits, or the trade of the electrical distribution system in Zimmerman for that system owned and operated by the Anoka Electric Cooperative in and around the site of the new Sherburne County Courthouse on U.S. Highway #10.
