Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the promotion of Officer Justin Ege to the position of Patrol Sergeant effective
April 7, 2015.
Background /Discussion
The position of Patrol Sergeant has been vacant since the promotion of Darren McKernan to Patrol
Captain on March 2, 2105. The Patrol Sergeant is responsible for supervision of the Police Department
Officers on a daily basis.
Per the Police Department job description and qualifications for the position, Officer Ege is exceptionally
qualified. Justin Ege is an 11 -year veteran of the Elk River Police Department. He was hired as a
Reserve Officer in September of 2003 and was hired as an Elk River Police Officer in July of 2006.
During his career he has earned a number of department awards and commendations. Justin also serves
on the SWAT Unit.
Financial Impact
The position is currently budgeted. Pay will be consistent with the sergeant union contract.
